Now you see it... now you don't

This last week sees the start of the demolition!... well the carpet anyway.

This post should be named “Now you smell it, now you don’t”.  What started out as a plan to “lift a corner of the carpet to see what it’s like underneath” ended a couple of hours later with lots of dust, and NO CARPET in the living, dining, hall area (hurrah!).

Our little apprentices got well into the spirit... (hope they can tile...??) and having now lived with the bare floors for a week now... we LOVE it!

It really makes the room feel larger and definately makes me think, tiles, wood floating floor or polished concrete are the way to go.

Home sweet home... nearly!

What a whirlwind of a week!

MONDAY- picked up the keys with the intention of moving into the house... but got ALOT more then we bargained for with 20 years of grime, dust and ??? (who knows what the hell that was)?

If we were in real estate I'm pretty sure it would definately be a "renovators dream" (read Squatters delight). Complete with Pro Hart inspired motor oil stains on the carpet in the bedrooms, what is that smell?...bad hostel inspired bathroom and (hmmm how to dress up 'holes in the walls' ??) "open plan walls" (??). Ready to move (your bulldozer) straight in!. Home sweet home!

I have missed my real estate calling...

Luckily, we were able to get an additional night at the Sebel Brisbane- with no furniture and 20 years of filth it took the cleaner 3 days and industrial chemicals, to make it liveable (the house, not the Sebel). Paint brushes at the ready Brett and I painted the walls (60 minute makeover style) in a white, just to freshen up the bedrooms.

TUESDAY - Finally see our removalist late in the afternoon minus the lost couch cushions, fridge drawers and power tools... but it is starting to feel like home. Dogs return from the kennels (lucky them) and you'd think it was Christmas!

WEDNESDAY- Luca has his second school induction, and today actually does make it into the classroom straight away (refused to conform with the sitting on the mat or walking in line - just not for him!), but we are getting there. He visits the library and writes his name and colours in a 'Spring' picture... our big school boy!!!!

I finally land a job (yay me)... HR Officer with Railways Credit Union in the city, and I manage to navigate the network of buses and find my way into the city (yay me again) and I only have to mortgage the house to pay for the bus ticket (Melbourners - you have it good).

Here we are today - THURSDAY- boxes are being unpacked (yes, I am coming...) and we are starting to settle in. Stay tuned for photos and video soon

Talk soon, the Hutsons xx
